Rob and Michele Reiner’s son, Jake Reiner, sat down for his first interview eight months after his parents’ brutal murder.
The celebrated filmmaker and his wife were found fatally stabbed in their California home on December 14, 2025. Their daughter, Romy, discovered the scene and called Jake, who recalled the harrowing moment during an interview with KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles on Thursday, August 27.
“Romy told me our dad was dead and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom,’” Jake shared.
Hours later, Jake and Romy’s brother, Nick Reiner, was arrested in connection with the killings. He has since been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder and pleaded not guilty. The indictment, which was handed down in July, was unsealed last week, with both Jake and Romy testifying before the grand jury.
Reflecting on losing his entire family as he knew it, Jake struggled to find the words.
“Yeah. I mean, he’s in jail, so… “ he said of Nick. “You know, it’s… I physically lost my parents. And then Nick was arrested. And now it’s me and Romy.”
Nick’s pre-trial hearing is scheduled for September 15. If convicted, he faces the possibility of the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole, although prosecutors have yet to announce whether they will seek a death sentence.
