Zara Larsson rejects Grammys' ‘Best New Artist' category

Zara Larsson is drawing a line at being called a new artist.

The Stateside hitmaker may be enjoying a fresh wave of global success, but there’s one Grammy category she has no interest in entering.

The Swedish pop star has pushed back against the idea of being submitted for Best New Artist, arguing that the label overlooks the career she has already built.

Speaking about the possibility, she recalled a conversation with her former label, which told her they would look into submitting her for the category.

“They were like, ‘Yeah, we’re going to see if we can put you in Best New Artist for the Grammys.’ And I’m like, I don’t even want that,” the Midnight Sun songstress recalled during an interview with Perfect Magazine.

She didn’t hesitate to reject the possibility saying, “That would downplay the 13 years of me being an artist. I’m not a new artist.”

Her comments earned her a new fan with a new admirer writing, “Wow!! Someone else with some morals, intelligence, and self aware and self respect. You’ve got a new fan! Classy act! And I know she did a collab with bts before. Love her now.”

A fan praised her for her stance, adding, “She knows her worth.” Another, meanwhile, wrote, “that would downplay 13 years of me being an artist’ is such a clean way to shut that down, respect the boundary.”
