Harry Styles pauses concert to celebrate longtime bandmate's birthday

Harry Styles turned his concert stage into a birthday celebration for someone who has been by his side since the very beginning of his solo career.

During the third night of his Madison Square Garden residency on Saturday, August 29, the Watermelon Sugar hitmaker paused the show to celebrate his longtime drummer and bandmate, Sarah Jones, who was turning 41.

Rather than letting the special occasion pass quietly, the As It Was chart-topper invited the entire arena to join him in singing “Happy Birthday” to Jones.

“Tomorrow is Sarah Jones's birthday, and I would be truly devastated with myself if we didn't seize this moment to celebrate this stunning, wonderful woman, Sarah Jones,” the former One Direction star told the crowd before asking thousands of fans to join him in the birthday song.

The sweet moment was a celebration of a musical partnership that stretches back nearly a decade.

Jones has been part of Styles’ live band since his first solo tour in 2017, making her one of the longest-standing members of his touring team.

Their professional connection began while the X Factor alum was assembling his first solo band. 

His creative director, Molly Hawkins, was looking for musicians and was introduced to Jones through a connection involving her boyfriend and members of Hot Chip, a band Jones had previously worked with.

That recommendation eventually led to an audition, and she landed the role of the 32-year-old singer's drummer.

Cut to now, Jones found herself at the center of attention at MSG, with the Together Together tour performer making sure her birthday received a celebration worthy of the occasion.
