Kim Kardashian leads fundraising auction with huge donation

Kim Kardashian pledged $50,000 during the live auction portion of This Is About Humanity's 8th Annual Soiree, held August 29 at Henry Winkler's Brentwood estate. 

Kardashian's paddle was the first to go up once the auction began, prompting Winkler, who hosted the event, to tell the crowd, "Kim, you are an angel in every way," as fundraising continued for the evening's cause.

The event drew roughly 400 guests, including Wilmer Valderrama, who was honoured that night, along with Katharine McPhee Foster, Annie Gonzalez and Constance Marie. 

Kardashian attended in part to support her childhood friend Zoe Winkler Reinis, Henry Winkler's daughter and one of the organization's co-founders. 

This Is About Humanity was established in 2018 by Reinis alongside Elsa Marie Collins and Yolanda Selene Walther-Meade, with a mission focused on raising awareness and providing support for separated and reunified families and children at the U.S.-Mexico border. 

The organisation funds essentials, legal services and mental wellness resources, and organizes educational trips to the border for community members.

During his own remarks at the event, Valderrama spoke about the motivation behind the group's work. 

"Because when a family is separated, when a kid is sitting in a shelter, when someone needs a meal, a lawyer or someone to talk to, I think it's pretty simple. People need people." 

According to the organization, its efforts have helped serve more than 3,500 meals a day at shelters and community centers, in addition to broader mental health, educational and wildfire relief programs for families across the Los Angeles area.
