Curry Barker made records with his independent movie, Obsession, this year and he will now be running his first Oscars campaign at just the age of 26.

The movie grossed $505 million globally and earned critical and commercial acclaim, being one of its kind in the horror genre.

Now Barker will be running for the nomination for the Best Director category at the Academy Awards.

Cinephiles flocked to social media at the news and wrote, "Deserves the nomination at the very least. Dude made one of the most memorable horror movies in the last two decades on a shoestring budget and helped bring attention to Indie, who is going to be in all our lives for the rest of our lives."

Another added, "From movies that have already released this year Wilde, Nolan, Lord & Miller, Johnson, Borgli, Rami, and Schoenburg gave way better directing jobs."

A third chimed in, "this was definitely a defining movie of the year because not only did it have multiple trends come out of it but it also got more money than its budget."

More weighed in, "Hoping for the best for this guy. Made a fantastic horror movie.. on next to nothing," and "I know he's not gonna win BUT Oscar nominations in your debut film????? AS AN YOUTUBER???????"
