Rob Reiner wins Emmy for 'The Bear' 9 months after his death

Rob Reiner has won a posthumous Emmy for his performance on The Bear, nine months after the tragic murder of him and his wife, Michele.

The acclaimed filmmaker-slash-actor took home the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award at the 78th annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, with presenters honouring him on his family’s behalf.

“It’s appropriate to stand for this one,” Wendi McLendon-Covey told the audience. “I know we all wish Rob could be here tonight to share in the celebration, I’m honoured to accept this Emmy on his behalf.”

Reiner was recognised for playing Albert Schnur in the 2025 episode “Tonnato,” beating out a field that included Michael J. Fox, Connor Storrie, Brett Goldstein, Hamish Linklater and Christopher McDonald.

The win marks Reiner’s third Emmy. He previously won twice for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family, taking home awards in 1974 and 1978.

Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on December 14. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with their killings and pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.
