Andrew Garfield gives chilling smile in first ‘Artificial' teaser trailer

Andrew Garfield sends chills with his haunting smile at the end of the first official teaser trailer of new tech drama, Artifical.

On Wednesday, September 8, Neon unveiled the look at the upcoming film centered on the world of OpenAI.

The preview introduces The Amazing Spider-Man star in the role of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, as the film explores the people, power struggles and high-stakes decisions surrounding the artificial-intelligence company.

Directed by Luca Guadagnino, Artificial stars Garfield, 43, alongside Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Ike Barinholtz, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman and Mark Rylance.

While some viewers were spooked with the closing shot after an eerie glint flashed in Oscar nominee’s eyes, some have already decided that Artificial feels a lot like The Social Network sequel they wanted.

As The Social Network actor is back in the world of tech billionaires, boardroom battles and Silicon Valley drama viewers couldn't help looking backward. Specifically, to 2010.

The British-American heartthrob famously played Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin in the 2010 film, opposite Jesse Eisenberg's Mark Zuckerberg.

Now, 16 years later, he's once again playing a real-life figure at the center of a defining Silicon Valley story. And fans can’t get enough of it.

“This is my Social Network sequel,” one viewer declared, while another called Artificial “the REAL Social Network sequel.”

Others dubbed it the “spiritual sequel to The Social Network,” with one fan jokingly comparing it to the actual upcoming follow-up, The Social Reckoning.

“It's crazy how much better this looks than The Social Reckoning,” another reaction read.

Interestingly, a direct follow-up to The Social Network is on the way. The Social Reckoning, directed by Aaron Sorkin, is scheduled to hit theaters on October 9, 2026, and will revisit the world of Facebook and the controversies surrounding the social-media giant.

While Garfield’s latest movie has nothing to do with The Social Network, fans are treating it like its spiritual successor anyway.

Artificial is set to make its world premiere at the New York Film Festival in October, before arriving in select theaters on December 25, 2026, followed by a wider release in January 2027.
