Gwyneth Paltrow reflects on past relationships with Brad Pitt, Chris Martin

Gwyneth Paltrow is looking back on two of the most talked-about relationships of her past: Brad Pitt and Chris Martin.

Appearing on Benny Blanco and Lil Dicky’s Friends Keep Secrets podcast on Tuesday, September 8, the 53-year-old actress opened up about the early days of her relationship with Pitt and how she and Martin learned to remain a family after their split.

Paltrow recalled being “so bummed” when her engagement to the Fight Club star ended. The pair began dating in 1994, got engaged two years later and split in 1997.

“He was so beautiful,” Paltrow gushed. “I think he was 31 and I was 22.”

The relationship also marked Paltrow’s first experience with intense public attention. She described it as “overwhelming” to be “getting famous on [her] own” while also becoming “famous as [Pitt’s] girlfriend.”

As for where the former couple stand now, the Iron Man alum insisted that Pitt is a “great guy, and I love him to this day. He’s a friend.”

Paltrow also reflected on her 2014 separation from Martin, with whom she shares daughter Apple, 22, and son Moses, 20. She recalled one “particularly hard” moment when a tense brunch with their children threatened to “go off the rails.”

Instead, the former couple “hugged, fist bumped” and worked through it, eventually “stayed a family” despite “not being a couple.”

Paltrow is now married to Brad Falchuk. The pair tied the knot in 2018.
