KARACHI: The Sindh government on Wednesday reduced school operating hours by one hour across the province, with the revised timings taking immediate effect.

The schools will continue to operate five days a week, according to a notification issued by the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department.

A spokesperson said the new timings would remain in force until further orders, directing educational institution heads and field officers to ensure implementation of the order.

Last month, the Sindh government restored Saturday as a weekly holiday in all educational institutions across the province.

At the time, the provincial education department said that teaching activities would take place from Monday to Friday, reducing the academic week to five working days.

Teaching hours would be extended by one hour to ensure the continuation of academic activities and completion of the curriculum, it had said.
