King Charles received some upsetting news about losing someone, who once had been very close to his heart.

Once dubbed to be the future Queen, one of Charles’s ex-girlfriends, Davina Sheffield, passed away at the age of 75 last week following a short illness. The news was confirmed by her three sons, Tom, Billy and Henry.

Davina, who was first linked to Charles in 1976, was often referred to as the “soulmate” to the then-Prince of Wales. She was the granddaughter of the 1st Lord McGowan, who previously served as the Chairman of Imperial Chemical Industries, and she was also the cousin of Samantha Cameron.

The pair were often seen attending events together but the match did not happen due to one unfortunate objection from the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Charles had even taken up Davina to Balmoral to introduce her to the Royal Family, which signalled that there were wedding bells on the horizon. However, when Davina’s ex-boyfriend revealed that they lived in a “love-nest” the romance was “killed stone dead”.

At the time, royal convention dictated that Charles choose an “unblemished” bride. Hence, Davina and Charles went their separate ways.

Charles went on to date Lady Jane Wellesley, Lady Amanda Knatchbull, Sabrina Guinness, Lady Sarah Spencer and Lady Diana Spencer. Following his marriage and divorce to Diana, Charles has been married to Camilla Parker-Bowles since 2005.
