Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are carrying on business as usual as new tensions stir behind Palace walls, following the clarification of the Sussex titles.
King Charles had issued a letter, via Lord Chamberlain, confirming that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “private citizens” despite their return to Britain. The letter was released to clear the confusion after the Palace had received queries from establishment and UK government.
Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson had said that the couple were left “surprised” by it but it seems that the latest blow has not fazed them. According to a report by Hello!, the couple was seen visiting the Soho Farmhouse, a private members club located in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.
Harry used the gym before enjoying brunch with his wife at the elite membership-only farmhouse, which is near their rumoured home in Cotswold.
The appearance comes after a source close to the Sussexes revealed that Harry and Meghan “no longer feel bound to the terms of the ‘Megxit’ agreement” following the King’s letter.
Buckingham Palace may not have anticipated this response from the Sussexes as Harry had been willing to reconcile with his family and for his two children, Archie and Lilibet, to have a relationship with their grandfather.
The move may have backfired for the royals as the agreement dictated that the couple would be obligated to follow “a set of values known as the Nolan Principles” – supporting the UK government and not get involved in political controversies.
King Charles’s letter may have indicated that the couple can be more vocal about their views as “private citizens”, which is clearly a new headache for the Palace.
