Jay-Z is no stranger to the spotlight, but there’s one person who can make even the music mogul nervous.

Speaking to Extra TV at the New York City premiere of Jay-Z in 8, which will debut on September 18 on HBO, the rapper opened up about the pressure he feels as his daughter Blue Ivy stepped into the spotlight.

The interviewer asked what goes through his mind when he sees his and Beyonce’s daughter playing piano in front of crowds or taking the stage at events such as the Met Gala.

The doting father admitted, “I’m more nervous for her than I am for myself.”

Despite those inhibitions, Jay-Z said he has confidence in Blue Ivy because of the dedication she has shown to developing her talents.

“She’s put in the work and she’s a student and she loves it. So, you know, just to watch her find her way is just extraordinary,” he said.

Notably, Blue Ivy has increasingly found herself in the public eye, following in the footsteps of her superstar parents, Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

For her father, however, watching her discover her own path appears to be less about living up to the Carter family legacy and more about seeing her grow into her own person.

The conversation also turned to Beyoncé and the influence she has had on Jay-Z’s own creative process.

“I’m super inspired by her. I think she’s a phenomenal producer and writer. And she’s fearless,” Jay-Z said.

He explained that Beyoncé’s willingness to experiment is something he admires, particularly because he can sometimes become more self-conscious about trying something new.
