"Kim Kardashian awarded 1 euro in damages over 2016 Paris Jewelry heist

A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian a symbolic 1 euro, roughly $1.15, in damages tied to the 2016 armed robbery in which she was held at gunpoint and robbed of millions of dollars in jewelry, most of which has never been recovered. 

A lawyer involved in the case confirmed the amount to the Associated Press on Tuesday, September 15, noting it was the exact sum Kardashian, 45, had requested during her testimony at the criminal trial earlier this year.

Her childhood friend Simone Harouche, who was downstairs at the No Address Hotel when the robbery took place, was also awarded 1 euro at her own request. 

Kardashian and Harouche released a joint statement to PEOPLE following the ruling. 

"We are grateful to the French justice system for recognising us as victims of the terrible events that took place in Paris in 2016. The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today's decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition. We are thankful to the Court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal." 

The court took a different approach with two other parties involved, a former hotel receptionist who said the incident left him traumatized was awarded $126,472, while the hotel itself received $57,741.

The robbery took place on October 3, 2016, when five masked men, some dressed as police officers, broke into Kardashian's hotel room while she was alone, holding her at gunpoint before binding and gagging her and placing her in a bathtub as they made off with millions of dollars in jewelry. 

A source close to Kardashian told PEOPLE in 2016 that she managed to work her hands free from plastic ties before running to Harouche's room to call for help. 

Among the stolen items were a $4 million ring given to her by then-husband Kanye West, two diamond Cartier bracelets, a gold-and-diamond Jacob necklace, Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and a gold Rolex, most of which, according to The New York Times, has never been recovered.

French authorities arrested 17 people in connection with the robbery by January 2017, with ten eventually standing trial after years of delays, the group, mostly older men with prior criminal histories, was dubbed the "Grandpa robbers" by French media. 

During her May 2025 testimony, Kardashian told the court she "absolutely did think I was gonna die" during the ordeal, according to the BBC. 

She later explained on an episode of The Kardashians that she deliberately wore all black paired with diamonds to court, saying she wanted to "taunt the f--- out of these losers." 

Eight defendants were ultimately convicted on charges related to the robbery, while two were acquitted, none will serve additional prison time due to time already served.

Following the guilty verdict, Kardashian said in a statement to PEOPLE, "I am deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case. The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family. While I'll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice, and promoting a fair legal system."
