Prince William makes urgent video call amid crisis: 'What can I do?'

Prince William addressed the serious climate crisis impacting many people in Nepal through an important video message.

Kensington Palace released details about the Prince of Wales's recent chat with Build Up Nepal, a 2024 Earthshot Prize Finalist. They talked about the devastating effects of the recent floods in Nepal.

According to William's team, "They discussed how over 7,500 homes have been destroyed and the positive efforts already underway to rebuild, and reiterated exactly what Nepal needs right now: the world's support."

While encouraging Build Up Nepal, William said, "I know how necessary your solutions are to help the people of Nepal."

In a video call, the future King expressed his sadness over the recent natural disaster that shook the world. He uplifted the spirits of those working towards the needed solutions for the tragedy that hit communities.

William said, "I don't want to take up too much of your time. I just wanted to check in and really hear from you guys what it's like to be on the ground and what kind of plans you hope to put in place and maybe what some of the barriers are at the moment for you to sort of be able to help more people?"

A representative from Build Up Nepal expressed surprise at the glacier floor. He noted that they had previously worked to rebuild the community after the 2015 earthquake, and it is heartbreaking to see them affected by another natural disaster now.

William offered help, saying, "What can Earthshot and I do for you guys?"

The team on the ground has stated that they urgently require support in fundraising efforts. Specifically, they need assistance in connecting with high-net-worth individuals, private foundations, and others who can contribute to humanitarian and climate crisis initiatives. This support is essential for building safe houses for those in need.

The mission of the Earthshot Prize has also been praised, as they are looking for long-term solutions to fight climate change. 

It is important to mention that "To date 1399 people have died, 5179 remain missing, and over 13,700 have been rescued," Build Up Nepal shared the statistics.
