Greta Gerwig's Narnia reboot faces backlash over new changes

Netflix’s new Narnia movie is already getting a lot of attention after fans got their first proper look at the film.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew was directed by Greta Gerwig, who is bringing her own ideas to the famous world created by C.S. Lewis.

Some of those ideas are very different from the original book.

The story, however, in the book takes place in the early 1900s, but the new movie will take place in 1950s Britain.

Gerwig also said that the movie will have the look and feel of later years.

Music and styles linked to stars such as David Bowie and Paul McCartney are also said to have helped shape the film.

The casting of Aslan has also got people talking as Meryl Streep will be the voice of the famous lion.

Gerwig wanted an actor who could give Aslan a strong voice while also showing warmth, happiness and emotion.

Still, some Narnia fans have questioned the choice because Aslan has always been shown as male in earlier versions of the story.

Gerwig is working on two Narnia movies for Netflix.

The first movie will come to cinemas in February 2027 and will arrive on Netflix in April.

The film’s big cinema release will give fans their first chance to see Gerwig’s new version of Narnia on the big screen.
