Taylor Swift lands major new MTV VMA honour

Taylor Swift is adding another trophy to an already crowded shelf — but this one puts the spotlight on what she does behind the camera.

The 14-time Grammy winner will receive the MTV Video Music Awards’ first-ever Artist-Director Award, a newly created honor celebrating musicians whose work behind the lens has shaped music videos and visual storytelling.

MTV and CBS said the award “celebrates a sustained and influential body of work from artists who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a clear directorial voice.”

Swift has already made her mark in the director’s chair, earning seven VMA Best Director nominations and winning the category four times. Her credits include The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite and Anti-Hero.

And yes, Swifties will get another major reason to tune in. The singer will be honored during this year’s VMAs, hosted by Snoop Dogg and airing live from Los Angeles on Sunday on CBS and MTV, with streaming available on Paramount+ in the U.S.

The ceremony will also arrive internationally on Paramount+ and MTV the following day.

Swift’s directing career is just one part of her latest run of milestones. She has also won four Grammy Awards for Album of the Year.

Her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, has reportedly made an even bigger splash commercially, selling more copies in its first week than any other album in the modern era, according to Billboard and Luminate data.
