Taylor Swift reaches out to Ed Sheeran amid tour controversy

Taylor Swift is reportedly checking in on Ed Sheeran behind the scenes — but don’t expect her to jump into his latest controversy anytime soon.

As the fallout surrounding Sheeran’s tour continues, sources told Rob Shutter that Swift has privately reached out to her longtime friend, while deliberately staying out of the public conversation.

“Taylor has spoken to Ed and has been supportive privately,” a music insider shared. 

“But she understands this is Ed’s situation to navigate. Don’t expect an Instagram statement or some big public show of support.”

Sheeran has faced backlash after Macklemore was dropped from his tour following the rapper’s pro-Palestinian comments, with several other opening acts subsequently withdrawing.

During a Philadelphia concert, Sheeran addressed the controversy himself, admitting he had spent much of his career trying to avoid becoming a political commentator before acknowledging that he could no longer keep his feelings hidden.

Swift, meanwhile, appears happy to let Sheeran speak for himself.

“Taylor has learned that when you’re as famous as she is, simply standing beside someone can become the headline,” a source noted. 

“She cares about Ed, but publicly jumping into this would only make the story bigger.”

Insiders also point to Swift’s reported fallout with Blake Lively as a reason she may now be more guarded about high-profile friendships.

“Taylor and Blake don’t speak anymore,” the source claimed. “That experience taught Taylor to be much more careful about friendships becoming public narratives. She isn’t going to let Ed’s controversy become hers.”

Another insider added: “Ed has to navigate this himself. Taylor can support her friend privately without becoming his spokesperson.”

For now, it seems the friendship remains — just away from the spotlight.
