Benny Blanco is sharing an unfiltered take on relationship etiquette, arguing that couples should feel free to flatulate around each other without shame.

Appearing on an episode of SubwayTakes with Kareem Rahma on Tuesday, September 15, Blanco, 38, declared, "farting in relationships should be completely normalised."

He elaborated on the reasoning behind his stance.

"Like, early on, I want to say, 'Hey, we ate a crazy meal. It was delicious and you don't have to run to the bathroom.' We're farting. It's such a natural thing. Just let it happen."

He was quick to add a caveat, noting the philosophy only works with mutual consent, joking that a "one-man fart show" crosses a line.

Describing his own contributions with characteristic humour, he said, "Mine are like cartoons. If Bugs Bunny were to fart, that's what mine would be."

The comment lands as Blanco and wife Selena Gomez prepare to celebrate their first wedding anniversary this month.

In a recent PEOPLE cover story, Gomez, 34, described the relationship as still deeply in its early bliss.

"I love it. It just feels so wonderful to have a partner that actually genuinely listens and just meets you right where you are, whatever that mood or day looks like, and that's all I could ask for. I just need him, and I love him, so it's pretty great."

While guest-hosting Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Blanco also reflected on how quickly the anniversary had crept up on him, noting he'd just spoken with Gomez the day before about the upcoming milestone.
