Anthony Russo drops major ‘Doomsday' clue hidden in ‘Endgame'

Marvel fans may want to look at the ending of Avengers: Endgame a little differently.

Anthony Russo has offered a tantalising clue about Avengers: Doomsday, revealing that the upcoming Marvel film is connected to a pivotal moment that appeared to bring Steve Rogers’ story to a peaceful close.

During a Q&A following an advance screening of Avengers: Endgame: Encore at New York City’s 92NY on September 24, Russo was asked whether there was a moment or character choice in Endgame that carries a different meaning for him today.

His answer immediately pointed fans back to Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter.

“Well, I mean, you all just saw Endgame Encore, and there's certainly, certainly a pivotal moment in that film at the end where the moment has a different meaning,” he said.

One of the Russo Brothers then revealed the intriguing Endgame moment that secretly leads into Avengers: Doomsday.

“You know, we sort of, we play one beat past where Steve Rogers' story ended with Peggy Carter, and in that moment, that's sort of, that's where Doomsday is born.”

That one admission could give Marvel fans an entirely new way of looking at Endgame’s final moments.

For the unversed, at the conclusion of Endgame, Steve travels back in time to return the Infinity Stones but chooses to remain in the past with Peggy, eventually returning as an older man to pass the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson.

Now, Russo has indicated that Doomsday goes beyond that ending, suggesting that what happened after Steve reunited with Peggy is directly relevant to the new Avengers story.
