Tom Holland, Sabrina Carpenter casting sends internet into frenzy

Tom Holland is stepping into the shoes of Fred Astaire and he won't be dancing alone.

Sabrina Carpenter and Margaret Qualley have joined the Spider-Man: Brand New Day star in Sony Pictures’ upcoming Fred Astaire biopic.

The Espresso hit maker will portray Ginger Rogers, Astaire’s famous screen and dance partner, while Qualley will play his older sister and original dance partner, Adele Astaire.

The currently untitled film is being directed by Paul King, best known for Paddington, and is based on Kathleen Riley’s book The Astaires: Fred & Adele.

Notably, the long-awaited project’s starry new lineup didn't simply land on the internet, it danced straight into the group chat.

Fans quickly reacted to the unexpected combination of Holland, the Please Please Please chart-topper and Qualley, with some excited by the trio while others questioned the casting choices.

One fan summed up the surprise with, “Shaking my head [crying emoji] Tom Holland, Sabrina Carpenter and Margaret Qualley in the same movie? Hollywood really said let’s assemble the internet’s favorite people and see what happens.”

Another fan was already looking forward to Holland's dance-heavy role, writing: “Tom Holland in a dance movie. The real stunt is making every man in the audience look at his shoes.”

However, not everyone was ready to give the casting a standing ovation.

One skeptical reaction read, “Why is Tom Holland on everything now,” referring to his recent blockbuster projects, including Brand New Day and They Odyssey.

Another fan was considerably harsher, writing: “This is gonna flop cause wtf is this mess.”

The casting has also sparked curiosity around Carpenter's return to a major acting role. Meanwhile, the Golden Globe nominee brings a dance background to the project.

Holland, who has been attached to star as debonair dancer for five years, has previously spoken about preparing for the physical demands of portraying Astaire.

“I’m diving back into the dance studio,” he teased during a recent appearance on Good Morning America.

After spending the summer with dominating the box office with the two highest-grossing films of 2026, Holland is now been rehearsing for the part.
