Courteney Cox gets candid about her new directorial project

Courteney Cox knows a thing or two about sticking with a project. 

After seven Scream movies, 10 years on Friends and six seasons of Cougar Town, the actress says she’s drawn to creative work that lasts — even when getting it made takes years.

“I mean, I’ve done seven Screams,” she told People magazine. “I did 10 years of Friends. Six years of Cougar Town. I’m very into things that last a long time.”

“If I like something, I want it to last,” she explained.

That persistence came in handy on Evil Genius, the dark comedy thriller Cox spent eight years developing and directing.

The film, starring Patricia Arquette and David Harbour, faced lockdown delays and two strikes, but Cox refused to walk away.

“It was really hard to get off the ground,” she said. “There was a lockdown, two different strikes. I’ve been working on it for eight years through all of that. And I just could not let it go.”

“I had to make this,” Cox added. “I was not gonna let it go. And I fought and fought and fought through all these obstacles.”

The film also features a small role for Cox’s daughter, Coco, 22, whom she shares with ex-husband David Arquette.

Cox praised her daughter’s acting and said she hopes to direct her again. 

Evil Genius, based on the 2003 “pizza bomber” case, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12.

Cox also spoke about her Homecourt hand wash collaboration, revealing just how much thought goes into each product.

“I’m exhausting because I just care about everything. Every detail. It’s that important,” she said. Sounds like the soap isn’t the only thing getting a deep clean — every design choice gets the full treatment.
