Dakota Johnson calls MGK 'tricky' amid dating rumours

Dakota Johnson has a type—and it might come with a guitar, a tour schedule and a little emotional chaos.

The actress recently spoke to Vogue about her history of dating musicians, just days after she was spotted out with Machine Gun Kelly in New York.

She wasn’t asked about MGK directly, but her answer about musicians was pretty telling.

“They like me. I don’t know what to say,” Johnson said. “And I like them.”

Asked what there wasn’t to like about musicians, she laughed: “A lot! A lot.” Then came her bluntest description: “tricky motherf*ckers.”

Johnson and MGK were photographed together in Manhattan on September 11, reportedly riding from Taylor Swift’s Tribeca apartment to Estela in the same SUV.

Neither has confirmed a romance. A source told Page Six it wasn’t a “big planned-out romantic night,” but said they “hit it off,” with “definitely chemistry” and MGK keen to see her again.

Johnson knows the musician dating scene well. She was with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin from 2017 until their final split in 2025, then was linked to Role Model, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury.

Reports of their breakup surfaced in August.

MGK’s recent relationship history is just as layered. He and Megan Fox began dating in 2020, got engaged in 2022, and welcomed daughter Saga in March 2025.

They have since remained connected as co-parents. In March, MGK even joked on Fox’s Instagram post: “stoked I have your phone number.”

Johnson also opened up about her hopes for family life, saying her path “turned out differently” than she expected as friends married and had children.

“It’s hard,” she said. “But it’s OK. I’m hopeful for that.”

And on having children, she was clear: “I really do,” she said. “I didn’t expect to be this age and at this place in my life.”
