Bebe Rexha recalls Taylor Swift's kind gesture before Grammys

Bebe Rexha still remembers who showed up for her when the fashion world left her feeling shut out — and Taylor Swift was one of the people who made a difference.

Speaking to E! News at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 27, Rexha recalled Swift reaching out during the 2019 Grammys, when the singer struggled to find a designer willing to dress her.

“I remember when I had that whole Grammys situation when I couldn’t find a dress and she reached out to me because we’re the same age, and I thought that was really, really kind of her,” Rexha said.

“Nobody really reached out,” she added. “Some people did, but for her at such a high level to make me feel like I belonged was really, really nice.”

Rexha was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance that year, but said several designers turned her down because of her size. In a now-deleted Instagram video, she spoke out against the industry’s narrow standards and declared, “f--- you, I don’t want to wear your f---ing dresses.”

Designer August Getty responded by offering to create a gown for her, writing, “You are beautiful! Every woman of every size is beautiful! Just let me know when I should start sketching.”

Swift’s support clearly stuck with Rexha. The pop star was honored at this year’s VMAs with the first-ever Artist Director Honors, recognising artists whose behind-the-camera work has advanced music-video storytelling.
