Lindsay Lohan next movie brings back 'Mean Girls' vibe

Lindsay Lohan is heading back to familiar creative territory — and this time, she’s bringing a new co-star along for the ride.

The actress, 40, is reuniting with Mean Girls and Freaky Friday director Mark Waters for Netflix’s upcoming movie Return to You.

Lohan will star opposite Crazy Rich Asians actor Henry Golding in the Y2K-era story, according to Tudum. She’ll also serve as a producer.

Set in 2008, the film follows a lonely attorney who receives a DVD from a dying woman, addressed to her husband.

“Guided only by the clues on the disc, the lawyer sets out to find the woman’s spouse,” the synopsis teases.

The project marks another reunion for Lohan and Waters, who first worked together on Freaky Friday in 2003 before reuniting for the 2004 hit Mean Girls. 

Waters later directed Netflix titles including He’s All That, Mother of the Bride and La Dolce Villa.

Lohan has also become a familiar face on the streamer, starring in Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish and Our Little Secret.

Waters previously said he wasn’t asked to direct the Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday, despite offering to get involved. “Unfortunately, I was not invited to the party,” he told Variety in 2025.

Still, he made clear he wanted to work with Lohan again. “When we hung out recently, we did say it would be fun to find an excuse to do something together.”

Looks like they’ve found one. The film is written by Eric Champnella, with more cast details to come.
