Taylor Swift slammed by rock legend over her impact on music

Taylor Swift has found herself at the centre of a strong music debate after rock legend Todd Rundgren shared his thoughts about her career.

Rundgren, 78, spoke about Swift in a new interview and compared her with Lady Gaga. He praised Gaga as a “real musician” and a “classically trained piano player.”

When he spoke about Swift, however, his words were much harsher.

“Swift doesn’t do anything particularly great except grow hair. She’s not a great singer. She’s not a great songwriter. She’s not a great dancer,” he said.

Rundgren also questioned the reason behind Swift’s huge success and the way the music industry has changed.

“There’s an argument to be made that she ruined music. It’s an understandable phenomenon. It’s just that, to me, Taylor Swift is the apotheosis of mediocrity. It’s the era of the female artists,” said Rundgren.

His comments come just days after Swift had another huge moment in her career.

The singer won three MTV Video Music Awards and now has 33 VMAs in total, making her the artist with the most wins in the history of the awards.

She also won Video of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia and received the first Artist Director Award.

Swift has not publicly responded to Rundgren’s comments.
