King Charles gives nod to Duke and Duchess in heartfelt statement

King Charles wrote a personal message to celebrate a significant milestone, with a rare acknowledgement of two special members of the royal family.

Prince William's father, on his and Queen Camilla's behalf, extended warm wishes to the President and people of the Republic of Botswana as they celebrate their sixtieth anniversary of independence.

In his statement, the King wrote, "As you mark this important anniversary, we reflect with admiration on Botswana's remarkable achievements, its enduring democratic traditions and the resilience and ingenuity of its people."

The monarch expressed delight in the upcoming visit of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester to Botswana, scheduled for early October.

The Duke and Duchess will take part in the country's independence celebrations.

Speaking about the ties between the UK and Botswana, King Charles said, "The friendship between the United Kingdom and Botswana continues to flourish, rooted in our Commonwealth values and mutual respect.

"I look forward to the opportunity for our nations to come together at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November, where we may celebrate the friendship and shared values that bind us together."

He expressed his joy over the warmth shared between the people of the UK and Botswana, "including through our shared commitment to sustainable development and conservation, for the benefit of present and future generations."

The monarch said that he and his wife are happy to send their "best wishes to all Batswana for a joyful Independence Day and for peace, prosperity and success in the year ahead."
