Pete Davidson addresses Kanye West's threats over Kim Kardashian romance

Pete Davidson has a lot of empathy for his ex’s ex.

In a new interview with Variety published on Wednesday, September 30, the comedian-slash-actor opened up about his brief relationship with Kim Kardashian while she was going through a divorce with Kanye West.

“I’m one of the survivors,” he joked, referring to the intense public attention and scrutiny faced by the Kardashian-Jenners.

Davidson, 32, began dating Kardashian, 45, in 2021 — several months after she ended their 8-year relationship. Ye notoriously did not take it well and lashed out at Davidson with several threatening posts and depicting a claymation version of Davidson being kidnapped and beheaded in the music video for his song Eazy.

The attacks did affect Davidson, who was struggling with his mental health at the time. “What tripped me out is I was super open about mental stuff — everyone knows this about me — and it’s like he was [saying], ‘Kill yourself.’ And he did push me,” he recalled.

At the end of the day, however, the SNL alum acknowledged that the rapper has dealt with personal struggles of his own, including losing his mother, Donda, in 2007. Davidson’s father, firefighter Scott Davidson, died during the September 11 attacks in 2001.

“I don’t know how he deals with it or who he has around him. Probably a lot of people who want to be his friend. I’ve had that,” Davidson said, adding that constant provocation can make someone want to “burn it all.”

Davidson and Kardashian, who met on Saturday Night Live, split in August 2022. Looking back, he said he still has “a lot of love” for her and joked, “I cleared the path for her to get back into the dating pool.”
