King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to address a difficult part of Britain’s history during their upcoming Caribbean tour.
The Royal Family has now released further details of the eight-day autumn tour, which will take the King to The Bahamas, Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda from October 27 to November 4.
Their visit will include a State Visit to Guyana and the couple’s attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.
Buckingham Palace said the programme would not shy away from what the King has previously described as “the darkest days of our past.”
Charles has previously described the transatlantic slave trade as an “atrocity” and spoken about the need to understand historical wrongs.
Jamaica recently submitted a petition seeking legal guidance on questions surrounding Britain’s responsibility for slavery and possible reparations.
Despite the difficult history, Palace officials say the royal visit will also focus on the “vibrant present and promising future” of the countries Charles and Camilla will visit.
