Josh Hartnett reveals how wife Tamsin Egerton 'picks up the slack'

Josh Hartnett may spend plenty of time on film sets, but he knows exactly who keeps everything running when he’s away.

The Verity star, 48, opened up about juggling Hollywood and family life during an appearance on the Scene Stealers podcast on October 1, giving wife Tamsin Egerton plenty of credit for holding things together while he travels for work.

“When you’re away, you have to spend so much time focusing on the work that you’re making,” Hartnett said. “You can’t be doing both at the same time.”

Luckily, he’s got backup at home.

“Luckily, I have an amazing wife who kind of picks up the slack when I go away, but it’s a weird thing,” he added.

Hartnett and Egerton, who met while filming The Lovers in 2013, share four children. They welcomed their first child in 2015, followed by three more in 2017, 2019 and 2024. The couple married privately in London in 2021.

For Hartnett, being a dad also means making sure work doesn’t completely take over.

“You wanna spend a lot of time at home,” he said of fatherhood. 

“When you have kids, you wanna be home with them all the time. You really do wanna be a father who’s present and able to make all the right decisions for your kids — or even just make the wrong decisions, but be there, just to be absolutely present.”

He also noted that Hollywood’s old Los Angeles-centered lifestyle is changing as productions increasingly film elsewhere.

Still, whether he’s filming overseas or closer to home, Hartnett clearly knows where his most important role is: being present for his family.

His latest movie, Verity, starring Anne Hathaway, is currently in theaters.
