ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court resumed hearing of petitions seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
During Thursday’s proceedings, Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmani remarked that statements made by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the floor of the National Assembly were not denied by Army chief General Raheel Sharif. Justice Osmani added that allegations against the prime minister could not be proven and he (prime minister) had held several meeting with the Army chief.
The petitions were heard by a three member bench headed by acting Chief Justice Jawwad S Khawaja. The apex court stated that hearing of the three petitions will be held on November 10 at the Supreme Court’s Quetta registry.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer, Irfan Qadir said he was not being heard when his turn arrived. Justice Khawaja remarked that he (Qadir) would be heard all day in Quetta.
Irfan Qadir said he would not be in Quetta for the hearing of the case. Qadir said he was a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court and his petitions were not being heard. He added that a petition had been filed against the formation of the bench which was returned after objections by the registrar. Qadir said he had filed an appeal against these objections which was not heard. The PTI lawyer asked why he should travel to Quetta as his petition was pending.
According to Qadir he would file a review petition against the court’s order, adding that he did not see justice taking place in the Supreme Court.
Justice Khawaja remarked that if Qadir was in a hurry he should file a petition seeking the hearing of the case soon.
