Mohammad Hafeez completed his hundred and was not out on 101 for his sixth Test century while Sarfraz Ahmed was 13 not out.
Resuming at 15-0, Pakistan lost Azhar Ali for 23 and Younis Khan for 28.
Pakistan, playing their home series in the United Arab Emirates because of concerns over extremist attacks, are in an ideal position to force a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. (AFP)
