Gilani contempt case: SC to resume hearing today

ISLAMABAD: A seven-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk will resume today (Tuesday) the hearing in the contempt of court case against Prime Minister Gilani.

On Monday, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's counsel Aitzaz Ahsan submitted the reply in the Supreme Court in the contempt of court case.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had requested the Supreme Court to summon Secretary Defence and Cabinet Division Nargis Sethi, former Law Minister Babar Awan and Secretary Law Masood Chishti as witnesses in the contempt of court case against him.

In a Civil Miscellaneous Application (CMA) filed before the apex court through his counsel Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, the prime minister prayed to the court that since his defence rests mainly on the summaries of May 21, 2010 and September 21, 2010 presented to him, as prime minister, given the history of the issue, the background, the previous opinions and the proposals, the three persons who recorded their views or affixed their signature on the summary are necessary and desirable witnesses in proof of his innocence.

During the last hearing, Attorney General Molvi Anwar-ul-Haq, who is the prosecutor in the case, submitted evidence to the court against the prime minister.

The court had asked PM's counsel to defend his client in the light of the evidences presented by the Attorney General.
