Control illicit human organs trafficking, SC orders provinces
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Chief Secretaries of the four provinces to take adequate measures to shun ill practice of trafficking of human organs by adopting existing laws.

The court summoned the details of smuggled organs till 1st August besides directing the Chief Secretaries to implement the existing trafficking laws with letter and spirit and submit the report of all districts in the next date of hearing.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of the petitions seeking to stop or end the smuggling of human organs.

During the course of hearing, counsel for the petitioner, former Justice Tariq Mahmood, apprised the bench that the provinces had promised to formulate the rules and regulations for elimination of trafficking of human organs but unfortunately no progress has been made so far in this regard.

On this, Director General Health, Qazi Saboor apprised the bench that the department has implemented the legal draft which was supplied for restraining the smuggling of human organs.

Chief Justice remarked that laws were made but no one implement on the settled law. The court also directed the District Police Officer Rawalpindi to inspect those hospitals related to kidney operations.

Further hearing was adjourned till 1st August.
