MUZAFFARGAH: At least eleven people were feared drowned and six rescued on Tuesday evening when a boat sank in Chenab River at Head Punjnad point in Muzaffargarh. Four bodies have been retrieved Thursday morning, sources told.
According to locals, the road traffic was jam at Head Punjnad since morning due to Eid rush. Therefore, 17 people who wanted to reach the other side of the river boarded a dilapidated boat, which split in two pieces due to overloading.
Rescue team reached the spot and pulled out six people alive from the water while the rest of eleven were feared drowned. The rescue team had to postpone search operation till Wednesday morning due to darkness.
DCO Muzafffargarh Muzaffar Sial said that four bodies were pulled out of the river at Head Punjnad Point and one of them was identified as Mujahid Hussain.
A case was registered against three contractors and a boatman at Saddar, Alipur police station.
