Ex-govt officer shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: Unknown gunmen on Thursday targeted and killed an ex-government officer in Defence area of Karachi, Geo News reported.

According to police, former income tax commissioner Mumtaz Sheikh was about to leave for work when unidentified attackers opened fire on him in Defence Phase 4. Police told that the assailants were waiting for him in a car outside his house.

As a result of firing, Mumtaz Sheikh died on the spot while the gunmen escaped from the scene.

SSP South Asif Sheikh told that investigation is underway to ascertain whether the incident is the result of target killing or personal enmity. He told that police is trying to search for the culprits with the help of CCTV camera fixed at the incident site.
