KARACHI: Police fired warning shots, used tear gas and water canon to disperse protesters belonging to Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen as they attempted to march towards US consulate in Karachi to lodge their protest against the anti-Islam film.

At least six people were injured as protesters clashed with the law enforcers. Furious protesters broke glasses of Geo News satellite van as they turned violent over police restrictions.

The rally named Labbaik Ya Rasoolullah started from Numaish on M.A Jinnah Road. The charged participants chanted slogans against the United States of America where the blasphemous film was made.

Police had blocked the roads leading towards the US consulate and used tear gas and resorted to aerial firing as demonstrators removed restrictions.

The enraged protesters turned violent and pelted police with stones and set fire to a police check-post near the consulate. According to reports, the participants of the rally also hurled stones towards the US consulate, some of which landed inside the building.

The police detained several protestors. However, participants of the rally dispersed after negotiations with police authorities.

Later, on their way back, the protestors set two police mobile vans on fire on M.A. Jinnah Road.
