Letting big fish go gives law a bad name: CJ
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry Tuesday remarked that letting the big fish remain at large and netting the small ones only gave law enforcing agencies and judiciary a bad name, Geo News reported.

He said this during the hearing of a bail plea case of a cotton factory watchman who was arrested when the police failed to apprehend the owner wanted for defaulting on loan repayment.

A three-member bench of Supreme Court heard the case.

Inspector General of Police, Habib-ur-Rahman, was also present in the courtroom.

Ordering that the proprietor should be behind the bars within two days CJP picked the police apart for arresting the poor watchman instead of the perpetrator.

“The law will rule only when it will treat the rich and the poor the same way”, the CJP
said.

Justice Jawad S Khwaja in his remarks said a line of distinction has been drawn between the privileged ones and those who are not.

“The one, who got away with a loan worth Rs45,00000, is free and the one, whose monthly salary in Rs8,000, has been put away”, he added.

IGP Punjab, in his reply, informed the court that police have formed six teams to go after the factory owner.
