ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file reference against Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Jahangir Badar within a week, Geo News reported.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif heard the OGRA implementation case here today.
The court ordered NAB to file reference against those who are responsible for the appointment of former OGRA Chairman Tauqeer Saqid and providing protection to him.
Director NAB informed the apex court that Rehman Malik and Jahangir Badar are accused in helping Tauqeer Sadiq flee.
On this the court directed to file reference against them and report to the court till Jan 30.
Later, the court adjourned hearing of OGRA implementation case till Jan 31.
During today’s proceedings, NAB prosecutor told the court that police had held Tauqeer Sadiq in UAE but released him later. The UAE authorities told that neither he was wanted there nor the required documents were complete.
Replying to this, Justice Jawwad said that NAB is not innocent to this extent. The team left for UAE without the arrest warrant and that is the reason that the UAE authorities said that they have to abide by the law.
He continued saying that such carelessness shows that the government agencies are determined to not to arrest him, and foreign ministry is also following the footsteps of NAB and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Justice Khilji Arif remarked that it is NAB motto to let go of big corrupt fish and only catches the weak and accused in trivial cases.
