ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Saturday filed a review petition against his disqualification by the Supreme Court of Pakistan last year, Geo News reported.
The former premier was sent packing for not complying with the apex court's orders directing him to write a letter to the Swiss authorities for reopening graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
Gilani personally came to the Supreme Court for filing the review petition, which was earlier sent by post and returned by the SC Registrar with some objections.
Later, speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, Yusuf Raza Gilani said that he has resubmitted his review petition personally after removing the SC Registrar’s objections. He said that he has filed the petition after consultations with his legal experts
Gilani said that he took the stance that the President enjoyed immunity under the constitution and the Speaker of the national assembly also endorsed his view.
He said he took the decision in the capacity of the prime minister and he was punished individually, as he personally was the loser as a result of the disqualification verdict. He said Aitzaz Ahsan did his best in his case, despite the verdict being otherwise.
