ISLAMABAD: The special committee of the parliament on electoral reforms Thursday decided to challenge new nomination forms in the Supreme Court.
A meeting of the committee was held here with its Chairman Jehangir Badar in the chair. The members of the committee were of the view that the Election Commission exceeded its powers on the matter of nomination forms.
According to the sources, a member of the committee Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri objected to a query mentioned in the ECP-amended new nomination form which, he says, asks a woman candidate in Islamic society to provide the count of her husbands.
He said that the assets details of candidates’ family members are also sough in the new nomination forms which, he said an impossible thing to do.
The committee directed attorney general of Pakistan to make preparations for challenging nomination forms in the apex court.
