LAHORE: Voting to elect the speaker of newly formed Punjab Assembly is underway where two polling booths have been set up for the members to cast their votes Monday, Geo News reported.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahbaz Sharif was the first one to cast his vote. The rest of the members also cast their votes to elect the speaker of the provincial assembly through secret ballot.
N-League’s Rana Muhammad Iqbal and Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani are contesting for the speaker and deputy speaker post respectively.
Raja Rashid Hafeez of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and Q-League’s Sardar Waqas are also among the contenders for the Punjab Assembly speaker post.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has withdrawn from the speaker and deputy speaker election.
