ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said Saturday that disappearances and extra-judicial killing of MQM workers would be investigated.
The interior minister was responding to a Call Attention Notice of MQM MNAs on increasing incidents of extra-judicial killings and missing persons in Karachi. Nisar said he realized the pain of MQM members over the situation in Karachi and inquiries would be held for any human rights violations.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Nisar responded to the opposition’s diatribe over his alleged one-month ultimatum given to the Sindh government to control the law and order situation in the province. Nisar in his response to the call attention notice said that law and order was a provincial subject and he had no authority to issue orders in this regard.
The interior minister said that the federal government was ready to undertake any responsibility to bring peace to Karachi within the stipulated time if consensus was evolved in this regard.
The minister said that a consultative meeting was convened over national security and all the federating units would also be taken into confidence. Nisar said that he was not satisfied with the interior ministry report over missing persons.
