According to police, unidentified armed culprits opened fire in Umeedabad area in the vicinity of Pishtakhara police station that severely injured an on-duty cop deployed outside a church.
The wounded policeman, identified as Shehzad Gul, was immediately shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.
The accused successfully fled from the scene after firing.
