PM Sharif in Karachi, but Rangers not on agenda
KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Karachi from Lahore on Monday morning on a day-long visit to the port city.

Upon his arrival, the prime minister was received at the airport by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad, and other senior officials.

Sharif was accompanied by federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Khurram Dastagir, and Khawaja Asif. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was not accompanying the premier on the visit.

The PM is expected to spend a busy day in Karachi today but he will not attend any meeting pertaining to security or with regard to the Rangers' deployment dispute.

He will attend three separate functions during his daylong stay in the metropolis.

After his arrival, the PM proceeded to Port Qasim where inspected a development project related to the port and then attended a meeting where the progress and performance of the port was reviewed.

The Port Qasim Authority was giving the prime minister a briefing about its working and performance. He will also inspect a site in the Port Qasim.

Later, the prime minister will be guest of honour in the annual function of distribution of awards and trophies in the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries of Pakistan (FPCCI) and he will return to Islamabad in the evening.
