US consulate in Lahore to remain closed due to threat

WASHINGTON: United States has announced that its consulate in Lahore would remain closed due to a credible threat to the facility while it would re-open 18 of the 19 embassies and consulates on Sunday that were closed recently across the world.

According to the US State Department’s spokesperson, US embassy in Sanaa, Yemen would remain closed because of “ongoing concerns about a threat stream indicating the potential for terrorist attacks emanating from Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.”

She said that US would continue to evaluate the threats to Sanaa and Lahore and make subsequent decisions about the re-opening of those facilities based on that information.
