Justice Tassadduq assures to hold fair by-elections

ISLAMABAD: After taking oath as the acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani said that he will make sure that fair elections are held countrywide, Geo News reported Saturday.

While talking to the media after his oath taking ceremony, Justice Tassaduq told that army help can be sought at the sensitive polling stations while the officers on-duty will be empowered with the judicial magistrate’s authority so that they can punish the offenders there and then.

When asked about the Election Commission’s authority to invalidate the Supreme Court’s order, Justice Tassaduq suggested the media men to go through the constitution.

Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry administered the oath to Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jillani in a ceremony held at the Supreme Court, Lahore Registry.

CEC slot had fallen vacant after premature resignation of Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim.
