OCCUPIED SRINAGAR: Indian police and troops on late Thursday night martyred five Kashmiri youth, triggering anti-India protests by local residents.
Police and an army contingent began a joint operation around midnight near the Najwan forests, 35 kilometres (20 miles) north of occupied Srinagar and martyred five Kashmiris.
Hundreds of residents gathered in the area after Friday's deaths chanting "We want freedom" after the bodies of the five men were handed over to them for burial.
Meanwhile, Indian police have arrested senior Hurriyat leader Mushtaq-ul-Islam soon after he was released from Idhampur jail where he was illegally detained.
