ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered for the registration of a murder case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf over then Lal Masjid operation, Geo News reported.
IHC Justice Noorul Huque Qureshi annoyed over non-compliance of the earlier order made the concerned SHO sit in court and directed to register the case immediately.
During the hearing of a petition filed by Haroon Rasheed, son of Lal Masjid’s Ghazi Abdul Rasheed against Musharraf for his involvement in the killing of his father and grandmother, Justice Noorul Huque said non-registration of case despite court order was contempt of court.
The Lal Masjid operation was a 2007 government crackdown on the controversial pro-Taliban mosque in Islamabad, which ended in a bloody eight-day siege killing at least 58 Pakistani troops and seminary students.
A number of witnesses in their statements had alleged that Musharraf, then president of Pakistan, was responsible for the action.
