KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has expressed concerns over Sindh government’s decision to merge union councils of suburban areas into Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
According to sources, after demolishing district council the Local government ministry merged the limits of the area into Malir District and District West.
In the past, the area of district council was given status of union council.
Now, local government ministry has converted the name of union councils into union committees and decided to link them with metropolitan corporation.
Sources said that the number of union committees have been increased to 268 which were 178 in the old local government system.
Meanwhile, MQM has expressed reservations over merging of 25 union councils of district council into metropolitan corporation, terming it illegal and unfair.
