Polling underway in Balochistan by-elections

QUETTA: Polling for local bodies by-elections for 74 vacant seats in the district Harnai and 24 seats in different areas of Blaochistan kicked off Sunday morning, Geo News reported.

Provincial Election Commissioner Syed Sultan Bayazeed told Geo News that local bodies by-elections are being held for 74 vacant seats in the district Harnai and for 24 seats in other 11 districts of the province, as no one had submitted nomination papers for a total 331 seats in LB polls earlier held. He said that the polling would continue from 8 am to 5 pm without any break.

Balochistan home secretary, Asad Gilani said that on the whole 122 polling stations have been set up in the 12 districts of Balochistan of them 18 declared highly sensitive, 90 sensitive, while 14 normal.

Police along with Frontier Corp have been deployed in Harnai district, while a strong contingent of 200 troops of Pakistan Army has been kept in stand-by.
